La primera ola del punk, a veces llamada punk rock clásico, punk 77 o punk de los '70s, es un término utilizado para definir a las primeras bandas punk de los Estados Unidos, el Reino Unido (principalmente Inglaterra) y Australia. El período de formación de éstas varía entre 1969 y 1977 aproximadamente, y las principales ciudades del movimiento fueron Nueva York y Londres. Los nuevos grupos se caracterizaban por tener influencia del garage rock pero con un carácter mucho más agresivo, tanto en letras, estética y actitud en el escenario.Una característica fundamental de las bandas de la Primera Ola del Punk es que sonaban extremadamente diferentes entre si, algunas siendo muy minimalistas y con letras simples, como los Ramones, y otras con mucho contenido poético y político además
A fines de los años 1960, una corriente de jóvenes de Gran Bretaña y otros países industrializados consideraban que el rock había pasado de ser un medio de expresión para los jóvenes a una mera herramienta de mercado y escaparate para la grandilocuencia de los músicos de ese entonces. Las obras discográficas de bandas de rock de principios de los 70 llevaban meses de grabación, grandes orquestaciones y millones de dólares como inversión; sin mencionar lo costoso y elaborado que resultaban las majestuosas y pomposas giras y presentaciones en vivo, las cuales exigían enormes escenarios, apoyos lujosos que iban desde iluminación y escenografía, hasta fuegos pirotécnicos. Todo esto alejaba al rock de la gente común, y pronto el status de rockero dejó de ser identificable con la vida cotidiana del joven promedio. Una primera corriente de nuevas bandas buscó regresar al rock a sus bases primitivas, a la simplicidad y el expresionismo.
El contexto histórico del origen del punk también se sitúa en una sociedad anglohablante formulada por roles sociales que muchos jóvenes consideraban hipócritas, basados en las apariencias y en la opinión pública estereotipada. El punk se presentó como una burla a la rigidez de los convencionalismos que ocultaban formas de opresión social y cultural.
Las características del punk rock fueron precedidas por algunas variedades de rock de los '60 y de principios de los '70. Antes del punk apareció una corriente de rock llamada Garage, que recrudecía más el sonido fuerte del rock con composiciones menos profesionales. Este género tomaba como principal influencia el sonido de guitarras distorsionadas de los grupos que en Estados Unidos se etiquetaron "Invasión Británica" (The Kinks, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, etc). Por ello, estas bandas serían luego bautizadas como proto-punk e inspirarían el sonido Garage, que también sería una base importante para el punk. Mientras que en los 70 bandas como Led Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd o Queen, entre muchas otras, llevaban al extremo sus producciones y presentaciones y se subían al estatus de estrellas; en el underground, bandas como MC5, The Velvet Underground, New York Dolls y The Stooges, le habían dado vuelo a un nuevo género que estalló una década después como punk y cambió la historia del rock por completo.
Entre el proto-punk de los '60, también se pueda incluir la bruta canción Surfin'Bird del grupo de Surf Rock The Trashmen, posteriormente versionada por The Ramones.
El punk rock se desarrolló entre 1974 y 1976 en los Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido, donde grupos como The Ramones y Sex Pistols fueron reconocidos como los vanguardistas del nuevo movimiento musical y cultural.
- En 1974, en Nueva York, cuatro chicos de clase media urbana se unirían en la que algunos consideran la primera banda punk: The Ramones. Sus canciones, con composiciones sencillas, bases de guitarra generalmente de no más de tres acordes, sin solos o grandes arreglos, con letras simples que trataban temas comunes de la vida cotidiana, y en especial con una actitud anti-moda, serían la definición perfecta del naciente género punk y una pauta a seguir para las bandas que vendrían después.
- Por su parte en Inglaterra se terminó de crear el punk, si bien no tanto musicalmente como social y culturalmente. Encabezados por los Sex Pistols, la juventud de clase obrera tomaría la guitarra, el bajo y la batería como medios de expresión para expresar el descontento hacia lo que consideraban una sociedad de mentalidad estrecha y represora.
The Damned fue el primer grupo de punk que sacó un álbum en Inglaterra (Damned, Damned, Damned) y dio el primer paso para difundir la rabia del punk entre la gente.Fueron los primeros en publicar el punk más rabioso.
Con el tiempo el género tomaría diferentes caminos y en su paso evolucionaría en muchos subgéneros y recogería influencias de otros estilos musicales. Los subgéneros del punk se definen a veces por características musicales, y en otros casos por el contenido del mensaje o la ideología que lo inspira.
Tal como después sucedería en muchos otros países, en Inglaterra pronto los grupos tomaron influencias de otros géneros. Una de las primeras fusiones del punk fue con el reggae y el ska popularizado por los inmigrantes jamaiquinos de Inglaterra (como primer y más representativo ejemplo la banda The Clash), o con el glam rock.Brian prieto.

GRUPOS DE LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS
Las bandas de Nueva York fueron las que más trascendieron, a pesar de que no todas fueron originarias de allí sino que se mudaron a la ciudad. Los demás grupos fueron en su mayoría de la ciudad de Los Ángeles, California.

Música
Las cancion solían tener una duración de entre dos y cuatro minutos, en respuesta a las largas piezas de los 60s popularizadas por los hippies. Una característica fundamental de las bandas de la Primera ola del punk es que los guitarristas carecían de técnica y eran bastante limitados. Además, las bandas tenían una sola guitarra, trabajaban con octavas muy distorsionadas con rítmos y riffs repetitivos. El bajo, por su parte, casi nunca utilizaba octavas y por lo general se limitaba a acompañar a la batería o a la guitarra. La batería poseía una técnica influenciada principalmente por el rockabilly.
El movimiento anarkopunk
Algunos grupos punk de Londres buscaban el anarquismo y otros anarquistas buscaban el punk, y así se constituyo el primer punk ¨anarquista¨. Muchas bandas tenían letras políticas y combativas, pero no se definían como anarquistas con el entusiasmo que caracterizó a CRASS, considerada una de las banda más radicales de la historia del rock, por sus letras y sus incesantes actividades agitadoras, proyectos, etc.
"Sí, se puede comercializar la revolución. Pero nosotros no queremos comercializarla, ¡Queremos hacerla!" (Declaración a una revista del grupo Crass)
Entre las bandas mas radicales en Estados Unidos se puede hablar de los Dead Kennedys ( la banda del polemico Jello Biafra ) la banda fue una de las mas "rebeldes" en su epoca, organizando recitales en lugares poco usuales , demostraciones frente a iglecias, lio y lio, y su nombre "Los kennedys muertos" que jodia a todos. por eso se separo la banda, problemas con la policia, amenazas. otras bandas norteamericanas "old school": Circle Jerks, Black Flag, The Germs,etc.
Jello Biafra tiene un sello llamado Alternative Tentacles, en donde edita bandas de rock anarquistas y tambien discos con charlas o conversaciones con, por ejemplo, Noam Chomsky, visita www.alternativetentacles.com , se pueden bajar varios mp3s. En Inglaterra la movida punk de 77 desaparece asesinada por el super-exito de los Sex Pistols. Los Pistols hacen exito y detras de ellos ocultan a todas las otras bandas inglesas... Los pistols al fin y al cabo fueron una banda manipulada para hacer dinero y hacer lio (que les daba publicidad). Dejando atras a las otras inglesas nadie les da importancia y "desaparecen"... mas tarde vuelve a "nacer" la musica punk pero con musica mas podrida y fuerte (ya hasta mas violenta) con bandas como GBH, The Varukers, Exploited, y luego las bandas anarkopunk; Doom, Rudimentary Peni, Discharge, etc.
Dentro de la gente que escucha musica punk, hay grupos combativos: los anarkopunks. Estos promueven el anarquismo por medio de escraches, manifestaciones artisticas, las letras de las bandas anarkopunks, y por su estetica. Pero hay bandas punk con letras muy "combativas" que no necesitan verstirse de ninguna manera en especial y siguen siendo tan combativas como antes; un claro ejemplo es la banda Canadiense "Propagandhi". La musica "clásica" (?) anarkopunk pertenece a lo conocido como "vieja escuela", el sonido esta directamente influenciado por el genero "street-punk" -punk callejero- britanico. Se caracteriza por letras anarquistas y producciones independientes. Los discos de bandas anarkopunks a veces incluyen posters, fanzines y en general tienen un precio "maximo" -que es muy barato. Los iconos del anarkopunk son bandas como Subhumans, Crass, Conflict, Dirt, Rudimentary Peni. El sonido del rock anarkopunk linda con el hardcore y otros estilos más pesados. Sin duda, han inventado miles de subgéneros que realmente apestan. Algunas consignas anarkopunks son las siguientes: "El punk esta en las calles, no en MTV" y "Hagamos del punk una amenaza real".
Los anarkopunks se agrupan con okupas y personas de ideas radicales (junto con gente que no necesariamente son "punks" sino con personas que se prenden, que se interesan por hacer algo constructivo y alternativo) en colectivos. Estos colectivos llevan a cabo proyectos de okupacion, organizacion de recitales , ferias de fanzines, etc. Las okupaciones no sólo proporcionan vivienda sino también se montan espacios culturales abiertos a la comunidad.
Debe quedar en claro que esta es una faceta del "punk", anti-comercial. Ellos se autodenominan "la verdadera kultura punk", dejando por entendido de que hay algún tipo de "falsos punks" dando vueltas. Esta distinción claramente se refiere a la nueva ola, que en los últimos años se ha mezclado con el último grito de la moda, dando a conocer distintos ejemplares como Blink 182 y Avril Lavigne. Todos lucen una estética renovada, aceptada y bien vista y su mensaje carece de la conciencia que predican los anarkopunks y afines al movimiento. En Las escenas en general constan de "escena punk-rock", consiste en bandas que se dedican a cantarle básicamente a la cerveza y a las chicas. Yo creo que esta división se da porque no se puede encontrar un punto medio. Y porque a muchas personas les parecen incompatible los dos mensajes. A veces lo son. A veces el punk-rock linda con lo simple y llanamente idiota, retrógrado hasta reaccionario. Según un amigo que llegó de Chile, fanático de Misfits y conocedor del tema, "muchas bandas punk rock carecen de un nivel de conciencia social y política". Y entonces se cae en una moda punk de fin de semana. Mientras que otras personas hacen del punk un estilo de vida, y ser uno es tomar una decisión política.
El punk melódico
En Estados Unidos (se puede decir que en la costa este - california) nace una escena punk inspirada por bandas como Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Germs ... se puede decir que esta etapa fue solo para posibilitar la gestación de Bad Religion, sin duda una de las mejores bandas punk de la historia, por sus excelentes letras y su musica. En Estados Unidos comienza una tendencia que poco a poco influencio a la mayoria de las bandas punk de ee.uu, y actualmente lo hace en todo el mundo; me refiero a lo que conocemos como "punk melodico", en general mas elaborado y como lo dice su nombre "melodico". Algunas bandas: NOFX (eua), Face To Face (eua), Hi Standard (jap), etc.
Comienzos del punk argentino
Hasta la revista 'El Expreso Imaginario' llega la noticia de la ruptura de 'Los Testículos',
dúo compuesta por Sergio Gramática y Harry B, baterista y guitarrista respectivamente. Pero de esta separación verá la luz un nuevo grupo, conformado por los ya conocidos ex-Testículos, junto a la voz de Piltrafa y el bajo de Stuka.
Esta nueva banda, llamada "Los Violadores", tendrá una actitud agresiva que heredan de Los Testículos, con un sonido de guitarras sucias y letras con actitud. Lo que dio como resultado una banda extraña a los oídos locales. Algo que el público, nunca había escuchado ni visto con anterioridad. Algo de nombre corto, pero aquí desconocido aún. Si el 'Punk' estaba aquí para quedarse.
Los Violadores poseen un aspecto muy parecido a otra mítica banda pero de origen inglés, The Clash. Por lo que hasta ahora tenemos a dos grupos de esta vertiente por un lado la banda de City Bell, provincia de Buenos Aires "Las Violetas" y en capital federal a "Los Violadores". Aquí debemos dejar claro que seguramente hay una gran cantidad de bandas Punk dando vueltas por el conurbano y la capital federal, que también deben tener su lugar en la Historia del Rock Argentino. Pero que por no poseer registros precisos sobre este movimiento, se nos hace imposible recrear la historia de dichas bandas.
Debemos mencionar además las formaciones paralelas de "Sumo" como "La Hurlingham Reggae Band" y "Sumito" (un grupo acústico que lo conformaban Roberto Pettinato en saxo y Diego Arnedo en contrabajo), también toca en el bar "Café Einstein".Sobre lo vivido en este lugar tan singular, habla Omar Chaban uno de los dueños:
"...Durante el primer año vino "Soda Stéreo" a hablar, trajeron un cassette. Tocaban una vez cada dos meses. No movían gente ellos no cobraban, ó muy poco, y el sonido lo poníamos nosotros. Después que tocaron "Los Violadores" nos empezamos a hundir. Vinieron los Punks y me acuerdo de la madre de un pibe que una noche vino a hablar contra la droga."
"Los Violadores" tocaban los domingos, y la cana siempre le pegaba a Pil (voz de "Los Violadores"). Sacábamos las sillas y las mesas y los Punks hacían pogo. Si se ponían muy pesados les tirábamos un balde de agua o les poníamos luz en la cara. Empezaron a venir pendejos con muy mala imagen... Por un lado es mentira que el Einstein fuera un mito, y por otro lado era mucho más."

En ese bar convivían el rock de Los Twist y otras bandas de rock nacional. La policía jodía constantemente.
"...la energía sale del rock, esta es una música transpolada de la Gran Bretaña, un movimiento social-cultural del rock en la historia, que es el "punk rock", entonces aparece Green Day que es el punk californiano... plasticón, pero el punk rock aparece con los Ramones en Nueva York, Londres, y empieza como un buen virus, a extenderse en el mundo, San pablo, Buenos Aires... Y nosotros lo agarramos bastante tempranito, en el '81, cosa que en España tardaron mas en agarrar esto." ( Pil - Los Violadores)
Pasaron ocho años... el punk explotaba.
En la década del 80, llegó el sello Radio Trípoli, en una etapa pospunk. Y el punk tenía el axioma “hacelo vos mismo”; cualquiera podía grabar y editar su disco. A partir del “hacelo vos mismo” se le dio un nuevo impulso al formato del single y el doble, de dos y cuatro temas. Trípoli vio también que se venía un nuevo movimiento, que involucraba al punk y pospunk argentinos. Algo que rompía con lo anterior. Y empezaron a editar discos, de bandas como Massacre Palestina y otras. El primer LP que editaron fue Invasión 88, el comienzo de todo lo que se puede considerar el despegue de la música rock independiente. Y el formato también era original, y respondía al modelo de sello independiente de punk inglés, con vinilos de colores y objetos aparte del disco. En el compilado Invasion 88 suenan bandas como Todos Tus Muertos, Attaque 77 y Flema, etc.
Posteriormente se puede hablar del BAHC (Buenos Aires Hardcore) escena que influenció muchísimo a la escena nacional, a pesar de estar centrada en la capital de país e inspirarse mucho en bandas del norte.
El punk en Argentina fue muy particular, a pesar de ser exportado, la movida del punk antisistema y contracultural en argentina fue muy grande ¿Como convive ese pasado de producción contracultural con las crisis y el marketing de nuestros tiempos?
Punk rock en español alrededor del planeta
En España, ya por 1976, había empezado a tocar La Banda Trapera del Río, pioneros del punk del país. A partir de los años 1980 en adelante encontramos bandas como Eskorbuto, Manolo Kabezabolo y La Polla Records.
En Argentina una de las primeras bandas de punk rock fueron Los Violadores, alrededor de 1980. A fines de los años '80 nace Attaque 77, uno de los grupos más representativos del género.
En Chile la banda punk por excelencia y más antigua es Fiskales Ad-Hok.
En Uruguay las bandas de punk rock más importantes son Buitres Despuès de la Una (BDDL1) y Trotsky Vengarán (TKY VGN), cuyos vocalistas son hermanos. Otra de las bandas importantes de este pais es La Sangre De Veronica o (LSDVK). También se destacan bandas como Graffolitas, Mandala Punk y Nada Que Hacer. En ciudades del interior de este país, se está volviendo al movimiento under de bandas de punk rock.
